Level 2 : Driving and community mobility interventionÂ
The logistics of the course
Format
- The level 2 training courses consist of content-specific courses that are presented as pre-recorded online videos.
- Attendees have access to downloadable course notes and resources pertaining to each course.
DurationÂ
- From date of purchase you have 3 months to complete the course.
Assessment
- Attendees are required to complete a quiz on the content of each course.
- Attendees will receive a CPD certificate on successful completion of each quiz, with a pass score of 70%.
CPD
- CEUs are allocated as per HPCSA regulations.
Course fee
- Courses are individually priced.
- DFC members receive a 10% discount.
Payment
- Payfast payments are preferred and enable immediate access to the course.
- Please use EFT for third-party and group payments only. Allow 7 business days for these payments to be processed before accessing the course.
- For group payments each attendee must register and obtain an individual invoice for submission to their accounts department.

- The course material builds on the information covered in level 1. It is assumed that the attendee will integrate the Level 2 information accordingly.
- The course content is based on the presenter’s interpretation of the evidence-based information available at the time of creating the e-learning course.
Who should attend the course
The DFC Level 2 courses are designed for Occupational Therapists and stakeholders who have training and experience in driving and community mobility screening procedures and wish to expand their skills to offer a comprehensive driving and community mobility evaluation and rehabilitation service.
The intervention procedures that are presented in the Level 2 courses are underpinned by Occupational Therapy principles. Other stakeholders attending the courses are cautioned to use the information within their scope of practice and refer when necessary.
What is covered of the course
Building on the foundation of Level 1, the level 2 courses aim to provide attendees with in-depth knowledge of the theory, ethical considerations and evidence-based evaluation and rehabilitation procedures in driving and non-driving community mobility.
Level 2 is presented as individual, content specific courses that attendees can access according to their training needs. The available e-learning courses focus on evaluation. The rehabilitation courses are presented as webinars, before being available on this e-learning platform. Additionally, the DFC is hosting practical, in-person on-road assessment and adaptive driving courses. The details of the webinars and in-person courses can be found on our Events page.
If attendees wish to provide a comprehensive driving and community mobility intervention service, all level 2 courses should be completed.

- CDE: Cognition and cognitive assessment.
- CDE: Interview, collateral and client-rated outcomes.

- Community mobility assessment.
- Documentation: Record keeping and report writing
- Ethics: Insurance, liability and billing.
- Evidence-based practice and clinical reasoning in driving evaluation.
- Parking for persons with disabilities.
- Physical assessment for adaptive driving.
Attendees who are interested in professional driver and diagnoses specific driving intervention services, can look forward to Level 3 training courses, to be hosted by the DFC in the near future.
How the course fits into the DFC training framework
The DFC has created a Driving and Community Mobility Training Framework that is designed to guide attendees through a structured training process and inform their scope of practice based on their level of training and experience.
