Impact of Impairment on Driving Licence Status
Our clients’ experiences show that the current driving licence application procedures for individuals with impairments are inadequate and inconsistently applied. The DFC is committed to improving these procedures. In addition to collaborating with stakeholders across various government transport departments, the DFC has developed the Impact of Impairment on Driving Licence Status form for Occupational Therapists to complete. This form is designed based on our understanding of the necessary components that should be included in the application procedures to better meet the needs of our clients.
The DFC encourages all Occupational Therapists to support clients who require changes to their driving licence by completing this form. The completed form should be submitted to the local Driving Licence Testing Centre along with the client's application. The form covers areas such as learner’s licences, fitness to drive, driver restrictions and vehicle restrictions.
Through this form, we aim to raise awareness of our clients' needs and showcase the valuable role Occupational Therapists play. Our goal is to improve the driving licence application procedures and advocate for the formal inclusion of Occupational Therapists in the application procedures for individuals with impairments.
